It was truly a miracle when the Dehiels were given a baby boy on a cold December dusk, for his mother, Serafina, was already at the age of forty. Nobody thought she could carry the baby until his birth, not even her husband, Galahad, or her two daughters. She didn’t take it negatively, of course, because she knew they wanted the best for her well-being. But here they are, gifted with a fighter, named Malikai Aventus Dehiel. Malikai, or his family often referred to as Kai, grew up to be a cherub in disguise, for he was always such a sweet and lovable baby from the start. He seldom cried to the point where his parents were worried and took Kai to the hospital. However, there was nothing wrong with him. He was just as calm as an ocean, his doctor said. His sisters, Aricia and Sabine, who also seemed to adore him very much, always made him join their little trips, as Aricia was already in college and Sabine was in high school at that time. Raised as the son of one of the most successful cardiologists and orthodontists, who were undoubtedly "comfortable" financially, he was taught to always be humble and caring to people around him. His interest in human anatomy also grew when he studied science in school. It's also not surprising that his parents really encouraged him to follow his dream to become a doctor, although at that moment, he wasn’t sure which field he wanted to pursue. When it was time to pursue higher education at the university, of course, he chose to go to medical school, and he took neurology as his major. It was a pretty fun and memorable experience for him since he had absolutely no pressure from his family to finish quicker than the other students. After four years of finishing medical school, he immediately went into residency. This time it was harder for him because of the pressure he placed on himself. He had a target of finishing his residency in only four years, which typically took people 5 to 7 years to complete. And of course, Kai finished his residency just as he targeted, but it cost him severe anxiety and depression. After the residency, he had to take time off from the medical world. His family insisted he should see a psychiatrist. Being a good son and brother, he didn’t want his family to worry about him, so he started therapy to fix himself so he could no longer be a burden. It was the worst moment in his life, constantly feeling he wasn’t worth living and having to endure the monotonous therapy. To no one's surprise but his own, the therapy really worked and made positive changes for him. It became less and less of something to avoid. Now Kai is still taking time off from work and often attends therapy sessions. With his will and his family's support, he's gradually getting better. He laughs more and rarely experiences panic attacks or depressive episodes. He once tried to reason with his parents about going back to work, but they insisted (again) that he rest a little longer, at least until he can control his bad habits of having negative thoughts. So, he decided to work under Sabine, who owns a pretty famous café in town. It helps him feel less useless, and he actually learned something new from working as a barista. On his days off, he often visits his eldest sister, Aricia, who married an entrepreneur, and plays with his teenage nephew.
